Claire Claims £3,000 Refund from HMRC
We’re also pleased to hear that one person (Claire), has utilised the features of this platform and claimed a £3,500 tax refund from HMRC.
Claire had never had a need to check tax code before, as she’s only had one job and doesn’t submit any tax returns online. Therefore, she assumed that her employer was deducting the correct tax/ni and money she received each month was right.
Upon accessing a usual guide on the Premium Online Payslips Platform, she realised that “BR” was not the correct tax code and quickly contacted HMRC. It appeared they had her record as incorrectly showing that she worked 2 jobs and agreed to update this.
“I’d never have realised any of this if my employer hadn’t switched…”
HMRC issued her employer with a new tax code to update her pay moving forward and was over the moon to receive a £3,500 cheque in the post with a refund.
Claire’s employer outsources her payroll, so there was no reason for them to be aware of her personal situation and that she had no other job. As she’d gone over 2 years without querying this, neither the employer or their payroll team could have spotted the error, even if they were looking for it. Unless the system alerted her to it, Claire’s over-payment would have go unnoticed.
Employee welfare is a big reason to outsource their payroll for this employer, especially as they give access to such powerful platforms as this. There’s been no additional costs raised on their part after rectifying this error, so it was a win-win all round. The primary goal of the Premium Online Payslip System is to bring insight, guidance and education which will enable employees and employers alike to optimise their remuneration process.
